2009 Amigos Cup

Apr. 22/23 - Apr. 26, 2009

   
 

 

The 2009 Amigos Cup will be held Friday, April 22/23 - Sunday, April 26 in Cancun, Mexico.

 

The all inclusive Resort of Barcelo, in the Mayan Rivera, will be the venue for the event.  Barcelo is one of the top resorts in the area.

 

Matches will be played on the resort's hard courts.

 

Hotel:  Maya Palace Barcelo - Premium (best) Category Junior Suites;

Rates:  $262.80 USD per double room ($131.40 USD per person);

           $183.60 USD per single room;

             $52.20 USD for children (ages 2-12)

 

These rates are applicable three days before and three days after the above dates. 

 

Each individual must make their own reservations by calling 1 (800) BARCELO (USA) or 01 800 BARCELO (Mexico).  Each room must be guaranteed with a credit card.  Cancellations are accepted without charge up to 15 days before the arrival date.  For cancellations thereafter, a charge equal to the amount of one night will be made to the credit card.  Check-in time is 3 p.m.; check-out time is 12:00 p.m.  For arrivals earlier than 3 p.m., the resort will assign the guest to a room as soon as possible.

 

These are all inclusive prices, which include room (air conditioned, w/ safe deposit box), welcome cocktails, breakfast, lunch, and dinner at any of the buffets. (Dinner will also be available at one of the resort's eight restaurants, subject to reservations and availability  Proper attire - no shorts, t-shirts, or sandals - is required for the restaurants.)  The price also includes snacks, drinks, tips, and taxes, a mini-club for children ages 4-12, a live show at the Monte Alban Theatre, live music in the the lobby bar, gym, recreational activities at the beach and in the pools, towels and chairs at the beach, non-motorized water sports, and tennis courts.

 

Special Chichen-Itza Day - requires April 22 arrival

 

For those who would like to go to Chichen-Itza, selected as one of the new "8 Marvels of the World," a special trip is being planned for Thursday, April 23.  (The approximate departure time would be 9:30 a.m., with an approximate return time of 6:30 p.m., in time for the 7:30 evening cocktails.)  For those who want to go, an arrival on Wednesday, April 22 would be required.

Sorlien Cup, Baker Bowl, and Gengler Cup

 

June 13-June 14, 2009

 
 

The 2009 Sorlein Cup, Baker Bowl and Gengler Cup will be held June 13 and 14, 2009 at the Toronto Lawn or Danalda Club in Toronto, Canada.  Competition will inclue both Open and age group events, with the IC of Canada fielding a team to match our traveling squad.  Some housing may be available.  Details of scheduling to follow, with an arrival date of Friday, June 12 and matches played Saturday morning through Sunday morning.  There will be a Saturday evening dinner at either Toronto Lawn or Danalda Club.

2009 Avory Cup

The 2009 Ted Avory Cup will be held on August 6th and 7th, 2009 in London, England.  The matches will combine highly competitive tennis with superior social events at Country Club location with golf and other amenities.

Guests are welcome and will have full use of the facilities.

The preferred arrival date is Aug. 4; the preferred departure date is Aug. 8.

Players Needed

We need two men and two women players to compete against the British in this event, in the following age groups:

 

Men's:  Open, 35, 45, 55, 60, 65, 70

Women's:  Open, 40, 50, 60

 

Age groups might be adjusted based on player availability.

Columbus Trophy

IC Japan 30th Anniversary

Sept. 29/30 - Oct. 6, 2009

   
 

The IC Japan cordially invites ICs from around the world to join it in celebrating its 30th anniversary by participating in the Columbus Trophy from September 30th - October 6th.  This event will combine competitive tennis and social events.  Participants are invited to the first day of the Japan Open, October 5.

The IC Japan will launch the festivities with a Welcome Party on the evening of September 30th, and will host the IC Dinner on October 3rd.  It will also offer a sightseeing tour to traditional sights in and around Tokyo.  (Additional tours may be arranged for those who wish to explore on their own.)

   
  Columbus Trophy Players Needed

2 male players age 65+ prior to January 1, 2010

 

Teams may have a non-playing captain, or one of the players may act as a captain.

 

No IC may enter more than one team. 

 

Two ICs may combine to form a team.

 

There will be a consolation event organized for teams which lose in the first, and possibly second, round(s) of the competition.

Participant Expenses

 

a) Entry Fee:  100,000 yen per participating team

 

b) Guests:  170,000 Japanese yen.  Guests will be able to purchase meal vouchers for lunches, drinks, and various evening events throughout the IC week.

 

c) Hotel accommodations: 15,000 yen per night per room (based on double occupancy; 7,500 yen per person; maximum of two persons to a room).  A deposit of 20% of the total room charge for the team is due, along with the entry fee, at the time of the application deadline to secure the requested rooms.  The deposit and entry fee are non-refundable.  However, if a team withdraws prior to June 30, 2009, best efforts will be made to obtain a replacement team, and a refund will be made if and to the extent a replacement team is secured.

 

d) Local Transportation - for individuals who may wish to go to downtown Tokyo or to local restaurants, although participants may dine at the facility's dining facility.  (Downtown Tokyo is approximately one hour by train or bus, and costs approximately 1,100 - 1,600 yen; local restaurants are approximately 10-15 minutes away by taxi, with a fare of approximately 1,000 yen..)      

 

e) Dinners - except for on Sept. 30 and Oct. 3.                            

 Team Expenses

IC Japan will cover the following costs for teams and captains:

a) Lunches from Sept. 30 - Oct. 5.

 

b) Welcome Party at Estolle Hotel and Tennis Club on Sept. 30.

 

c) Dinner on Oct. 3 at a downtown (Tokyo) venue.

 

d) Transportation between Narita International Airport and Estolle Hotel and Tennis Club (schedule to be determined).

 

e) Transportation to and from official events.

 

f) Half-day sightseeing tour on Oct. 4 (including Meiji Shrine, Harajuku (downtown), Imperial Palace, and Asakusa).
